Marian McPartland & Huey after the NPR interview

Dear All,

Here’s the latest news.

NPR’s Weekend Edition Saturday aired Susan Stamberg’s story on In Good Time on August 18.  Susan interviewed Marian and me for the story.  She’s a big fan of Marian’s and likes the film.  This was a national broadcast .  There were many positive and kind comments sent into NPR for this story.  Marian was pleased to answer phone calls all day after the story aired.

On August 1 and 5 In Good Time is being shown as part of the Prescott Film Festival .  I won’t be going out to Arizona but send a grateful thank you to PFF for selecting the film.  Please tell all your Arizona friends to head to Prescott for the screenings and the Festival.

In September Maine Public Television will show In Good Time twice during its pledge drive. The broadcasts are in the last week of September.  This was just confirmed and more details are coming on this soon.

On September 24 In Good Time is being screened at the Savannah Jazz Festival.  This is a free screening,  in fact the whole Jazz Festival is free.   I am hoping to make it to Georgia.  I’ll keep you posted.

I will definitely be flying out to Seattle for the October 20 and 21 screenings of In Good Time as part of the Earshot Jazz Festival.  This is a special screening because Seattle Times Jazz critic, Paul de Barros will be there.  Paul’s new book, Shall We Play That One Together?: The Life and Art of Jazz Piano Legend Marian McPartland  comes out on October 16.  I believe this is Paul’s first public appearance reading from the book.  Both screenings are free at the Northwest Film Forum.  Paul and I are hoping to team up for more screening and reading events.  If you have any suggestions or would like to see us in your town please contact me.

April through July saw a mixture of screenings of In Good Time, workshops for students, and wrapping up a for hire video for the Maine Forest Service. Also July 21 was the 35th Maine Student Film and Video Festival.  As a founding member of the Festival and its director for 30 years it is always rewarding to be able to recognize Maine’s outstanding young moviemakers.  Thanks to Corey Norman for taking over as Festival director this year and to Tim Ouillette for his help the past 3 years.  You can learn more about MSFVF here.

Sarah Boudreau & Huey, Epping Elementary School Premiere

In April I finished an artist-in-residency at Epping Elementary School, Epping, NH.  I lead 400 students, grades K – 4, in making animated movies.  The evening premiere in ”Eppingwood” was a big event for all involved.   That’s Sarah Boudreau Epping’s art teacher and residency coordinator extraordinaire with me at the premiere.  Go Eagles!

The Keene Gang & Huey, Little Theater Rochester Jazz Festival

On June 29 and June 30 I screened In Good Time at The Little Theater, Rochester, NY as part of the Rochester Jazz Festival.  Local radio host and long time friend of Marian’s was on hand to introduce me and lead a Q&A after the screening.  Thanks to all the folks at WXXI radio and TV, the sponsor of the screenings.   If ever in Rochester make sure to take in a movie at The Little Theater.  One part old time theater that has been refurbished and other half new cinemas with a restaurant and great movie selection.  Thanks to the Wentzell-Keenes for their kind hospitality and great food during our time in Rochester.

I hope to see you at a screening.   If you can’t make it to a screening you can order a DVD online from this site.  Or now you can buy the DVD in ME and NH at Bull Moose stores.

Peace, Huey
